The 1700 Series sewer valve is based on a maritime design: Model 1700 Inverted Vent Check. We have made modifications to allow for the harsh environment of sewer wastewater lines.
Functionality
The Inverted Vent Check Valve design allows for ventilation, while in the open position. If the water level rises above the elevation of the vent valve, our patented float design automatically seals off the vent pipe to prevent water from entering the pipe. After water levels recede, the float returns to its original, open position to once again allow venting.
The body is cast from 356-T6-aluminum alloy, which is lighter and less costly than many other materials. Rather than using the typical anodized protective coating, we use a powder coat epoxy. This epoxy is highly resistant to sewer acids and gases (Hydrogen Sulfide, 20% Sulfuric Acid Aq. Sol., 17% Nitric Acid Aq. Sol., 5% Sodium Hydroxide Aq. Sol.) plus ultraviolet light and oxidation.

A high density polyethelyne float seats snugly to a neoprene gasket, assuring a positive seal in the closed position.
The remaining parts of the assembly: guide rod, float support, protective screen, insect screen, and mounting bolts, are manufactured in 316 stainless steel as well. A 1/4 x 1/4 stainless steel protective screen, along with a 30 x 30 mesh flame screen, keep debris and insects from entering the vent pipe. Screens are spot welded and pre-cut to allow for ease of replacements if and when they are needed. All hardward is manufactured from 316 stainless steel. All Wager vents meet the required open area for municipal use of 1.25:1 ratio or higher.
The 1700 Sewer Vent Check is designed to allow for venting while in the open postion, while effectively preventing inflow in the closed position. An 18 hour submerge leak test on this valve showed a total of 250ml of water leakage which equates to a little over a cup of water after an 18 hour period.
The 1700 Sewer Vent Check is so effective in restricting inflow, that it will allow for lowered risers and reduced piping.
